During Social Studies lessons we learned a lot about the Great Siege of Malta, therefore we could not end the topic without including a visit to the harbours themselves which had a major role during the Siege.
We boarded from Sliema waterfront. Our trip started around Marsamxett Harbour. We saw the picturesque Manoel Island, surrounded by many yachts. It was a very different experience, seeing Valletta from the sea. We saw the bastions, the famous Carmelite church and the Lower and Upper Barrakka Gardens. When cruising around the Grand Harbour, we were fascinated by the three old cities; Senglea, Cospicua and Vittoriosa complemented by Fort Saint Angelo. Last but not least, we were impressed by how enormous the cruise liners looked when passing so close to them.
Although some of us felt a bit scared while the boat was rocking, this was an unforgettable experience for all Year 6 students and we enjoyed every second of it! We felt like tourists on our own island!
